Holly's story

A little support goes a long way

Returning to work after giving birth can be an anxious time.

For Holly, the support she received from her employer to continue breastfeeding made all the difference.

Creating Truly Supportive Workplaces

“Ensuring my baby had some breastmilk was really important to me after learning all the benefits it has for both my daughter and me.

My journey wasn't easy, but I had wonderful support from the infant support feeding team  and aftercare at Lincoln County Hospital. So, I was so anxious my breastfeeding journey would come to an end when I had to return to work as I couldn’t financially afford any further time off.

However, after speaking to my manager openly and honestly, I was so relieved that my priorities were received well, and I have been given time at work to express in privacy. This has made transitioning back to work seem a little bit easier as It highlights, I am a mother before anything.

I really proud of how far myself and my daughter have come; Breastfeeding and expressing can be hard to navigate, particularly with societies expectations now, but it also makes me feel empowered and I’m doing a choice right for us as a family."
